David Weisbrod has been a photographer and teacher since 1999. He graduated from RIT twice, with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Photography in 1997, and a Master of Science in Teaching in 1999. He has been teaching at Penfield for his entire career. When Mr. Weisbrod arrived at PHS, there was only one course in digital media – a 1/2 year Computer Graphics class. Since then, he has written or co-written classes in Digital Photography, Animation, Digital Video Production, Computer Game Design, Studio in Media Arts, and Desktop Publishing.
Mr. Weisbrod used to keep a WordPress blog for each of his classes. However, since the pandemic, those classes have all been moved to Microsoft Teams. Mr. Weisbrod is now building galleries of student work from his classes, which you can see here. He also has a YouTube channel full of demonstrations and other art-related information here.
Before teaching at PHS, Mr. Weisbrod also worked as a Media Specialist and surgical photographer at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Now, he also photographs semi-professionally, and occasionally designs websites. He photographs weddings and other events on a regular basis, and has also traveled to many places around the world to take photographs, including the Middle East, Alaska, Curacao, and also Africa, photographing a not-for-profit coffee plantation in Uganda, and an orphanage in Kenya. His photographs have been published in several places including the Democrat and Chronicle, and Sport Diver Magazine.
