This is a neat short little documentary about a photographer who visits the place where her father was killed while he was photographing the deadliest waves in the world.  There’s some good photography in it, and it’s just an interesting story.

Not that I’m encouraging you to do this, because it is rather dangerous, but this is a really neat story!

RIT Photo Workshops

Categories: General No Comments

RIT is hosting some photo workshops for students this summer, and I would highly recommend that you look at the possibility of going to them!  They are a great opportunity, and I think many of you would get a great benefit from going to them.  Click on the link below to go to RIT’s website and register for one!

Research Project for Thursday

Categories: General No Comments

Today, for your research project, you need to find SEVEN photographs that are excellent examples and imbue the following five Principles of Design:

  1. Emphasis
  2. Contrast
  3. Balance (what kind of symmetry?)
  4. Movement
  5. Unity

Copy all the examples into one Word document and then write a paragraph or two about how each photograph uses that Principle.  You MUST use the Elements to support you arguments!

Digital Photography Review

I am sick at home with the flu!  Hope to be back by tomorrow if I relax, and I didn’t want you do sit there and do nothing.  Follow the instructions below and I’ll see you tomorrow (Note my optimism!)

Just below is a handout/review on camera use.  Download this and then print it out on the HS-A02-BW1 printer.  Staple the pages together.

Below is a link to a webpage which has all sorts of information about camera usage.  Using that website (or others) answer all the questions on the handout.

Welcome to the Advanced Photography Class blog.  This blog will be where I will be posting handout, assignment information, as well as recordings of any demonstrations that I do in class.  It will be a very important resource for you during the class, and you will want to visit regularly.

On the right, you will see a link that says “Subscribe to This Blog.”   I want you to enter your email address so that the blog will automatically send you a notification whenever something important is posted.  Don’t worry too much – it won’t be emailing you every day.  🙂

Once you enter your email address on that page, then go to your email and find an email from my website (it may be in your junk mail folder), and in that email there will be a link.  Click on that link to confirm the subscription.  This is basically just verifying that you are a real person, not a spam program.
