So… We are now working on our final project. And just in time, too! I think we’ll be working on them right up until the last day of classes, so it’s time to get a move on. The idea of this assignment is pretty much up to you, except that it needs to be between 3:00 and 5:00 long, and it must have a non-linear timeline. You must also have some sort of “insignificant act” that causes some kind of major outcome in the story as well. (More on that in the assignment handout).
I do not recommend doing a music video. However, if you do, it’s important that you do something that isn’t just about what the lyrics say. I’ll post an example of the Foo Fighter’s music video for their song “Everlong” below so you can see an excellent example of this.
For a good read on non-linear narratives, go to Wikipedia.
For reference, here is one of the BMW short films that has a non-linear timeline:
This is a short film done by a director by the name of Dan Tratchenburg. This film attracted the attention of J.J Abrams, who hired Tratchenburg to direct 10 Colverfield Lane for his first feature-length film. Not bad for a YouTube video! I also like this video because it does not have any dialogue – just SFX and music. Perfect for a student film.
And here is the Foo Fighter’s music video for Everlong. The song is one that he wrote for his wife, and the video is a very interesting interpretation of that subject matter…
